Design guidelines
Add 3 mm bleed.

To allow leeway for cutting differences in production, always add a bleed of 3 mm around all edges of your design. Make sure colours, background pictures and layouts extend into the bleed area so as to avoid leaving white lines as a result of cutting tolerances.

Keep 4 mm safety margin.

Keep all important text and images at least 4 mm away from the edge of the finished size.

Resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Make sure the resolution of the images and graphics in your artwork are at least 300 dpi.

Use CMYK as the colour mode.

Prepare your files using CMYK as the colour mode, not RGB. Use colourmode FOGRA39 (ISO Coated v2). If you are unsure of the colour mode of your file, don't worry we can always convert this for you. Keep in mind this can cause the colours to differ from the original file.

Save your files in uneditable, print-ready file formats.

Save your files in uneditable, print-ready file formats (PDF (1.4 or higher), TIFF, EPS, JPG). Deliver your files in one layer: the background layer.

Convert fonts to outlines or embed all the fonts.

Make sure you convert fonts to outlines or embed all the fonts when saving it to PDF.

Fonts should be at least 6 pt.

Fonts should be at least 6 pt.

Use the right values for full colour black.

Use Rich Black (C:63% M:52% Y:51% K:100%) for larger areas and text to get a deep black colour. Do not use this value for text smaller than 15 pt or plain text. This can only be used in full colour printing. For designing black smaller texts use 100% black.

Make sure the ink coverage isn't higher than 300%.

Force Colour Images to CMYK with a 260% ink limit (in Photoshop > Convert Colour Profile > Photoshop 5 Default CMYK). Make sure the ink coverage isn't higher than 300%.

Check line thickness.

Lines should be at least 0.25 pt. Negative lines should be at least 0.5 pt.

Check your artwork for overprint.

Make sure no elements in your artwork are set on overprint unless you want this effect in your design. You can read more about overprint in our Help Centre.

Frequently asked questions
What is this product? And what can I use it for?
  • A poster is a sheet of paper (often large sized), that is suspended from/stuck on surfaces such as windows, walls or columns. Large sized posters stand out and are sure to catch the attention of every passer-by!

  • This product can be used:

  • • To introduce people to your business

  • • Promote discounts or events

  • • Provide information

Which production techniques do we use?
  • For the production of Blueback Posters Paper, we use the following technique(s):

  • Digital printing: Uses four colours (CMYK) with toners and inks to print digital files. This option is comparable to a large home printer, and is cheaper than Litho printing for smaller quantities. This is because there are fewer starting costs, fewer components involved, and no ink drying time required.

  • Offset Lithography/Litho printing: This technique uses wet ink and aluminium and rubber plates to transfer images and text onto paper sheets, resulting in sharp, vibrant, and consistent prints. While this method may require slightly more setup than digital printing, it's the most cost-effective option for larger print runs.

Where are the best places to hang my posters and how?
  • Based on the material you choose, you have the flexibility to strategically position your posters according to your specific goals and intended use.

Glossy materials are great for interior use on walls, windows, columns and other surfaces.
Blueback posters are great for pasting onto billboards and on top of other graphics. They are made specifically for exterior use as they are more opaque and thus easier to see in bright light conditions.
Waterproof PVC posters are also great for using outdoors, as they have a water-repellant layer and are tear-resistant.

There are several ways to hang your posters. If you want to place your poster outside for everyone to see and to attract the attention of passing customers, try Pavement Signs. If you want to communicate new deals or to preserve your print for a long time, take a look at our Snap Frames. You can also use double-sided tape or poster holders to adhere the poster to a wall without damaging the wall or the poster.

What materials can I choose from?
  • 115gsm Blueback: This material has no transparency due to its blue back and can therefore be used in bus shelters or on windows. It also sticks well to adhesive columns, because of its rough back. These are suitable for short-term outdoor applications because they have limited water resistance.

How will my posters be delivered?
  • Small quantities are supplied on a roll. Large quantities are delivered flat in a box. Due to the delivery on a roll for small quantities, the paper may curl a little at first when hanging. By rolling the posters in the opposite direction and carefully placing something heavy on the poster, you will remove the bend.

Will my poster be folded at the delivery?
  • No, the posters will be delivered either rolled up (large sizes) or flat (small sizes).

What is the fastest possible turnaround?
  • The fastest possible turnaround for Blueback Posters Paper is:

  • Next Day

  • Please note: Only applicable for products which require your design: To make sure that your order is delivered at the indicated time, it is important that we receive your file with your design for the product, on time (also called cut-off time). • The cut-off time for your printed item may vary. This depends on the combination you choose. This has to do with the manufacturing technique and / or the order quantities.

  • Please note: The product delivery shifts a day every time the deadline for submission has passed. This is also the case if the file is rejected by us and corrected artwork isn't supplied before the next cut-off time.
